What can be seen or heard
A bad moon, trouble on the way, earthquakes, lightning, and a watch that ends. The tune is bright. The words are not. The official film is a lyric video, not a narrative.
What the artist said
Fogerty has said the song came after the 1941 film The Devil and Daniel Webster, and that he meant an apocalypse coming. He also noted the bright melody against the ruin in the lyric. A later report adds that the title phrase sat in a notebook beside the period’s astrology talk. Those are reports of his account. They are not a chart of the moon.
Living Realm comparison
A warning of ruin, sung cheerfully, can sit beside other end-of-the-age chairs. The comparison does not make the moon a mechanism, and it does not outrun what he said the film suggested.
