Documented
Released in 1969. The official music video on Norman Greenbaum’s channel was issued in 2025 by Craft Recordings, which calls it the song’s first official video. The picture is new. The recording is not.
What can be seen or heard
The lyric asks for a friend when dying, names Jesus, and prepares to go. A spirit is in the sky. The 2025 film, directed by Laurence Harlan Jacobs, is a summer ride in Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach, with a cameo by Greenbaum. That film is not a 1969 document.
What the artist said
The 2025 video description is the note opened here. An interview about why he wrote a gospel chorus was not filed. Do not supply one.
Living Realm comparison
A death, a named friend, and a spirit above can be set beside other heaven chairs. The comparison does not convert the chorus into the chart’s theory. His lyric keeps its own name for the friend.
