- Break
- Opposition belongs to the moral world. The chart’s own lines emphasize potential, judgment, renewal.
Recorded claims
An evidence label is shown only where the kind of source is already established. No label means unclassified. A label is not a judgment. Source Needed means no source is attached yet. It does not mean the claim is false, weak, or disproven.

How we know
Where the evidence comes from, and how far it is from the people it describes. The labels are not a score. They do not rank traditions. A manuscript year, a tradition’s own claim, and a date from the ground are kept apart on the timeline.
The Book of Mormon was published in 1830. Parts of the original manuscript and the printer’s manuscript survive. Doctrine and Covenants and Joseph Smith’s papers are likewise 19th-century documents of the movement.
The tradition says the book was translated from ancient plates. Those plates are not available to read or to date. The evidence in hand is the 1830 publication and the manuscripts behind it, not an ancient artifact on a shelf. Later church teaching is a further layer. The ancient claim and the surviving book must not be written as if they were the same object.
Original evidence → transmission / copy → translation / documentation → modern interpretation
01
Original evidence
Contemporary primary text
The published book, the dictation manuscripts, and Smith’s revelations are primary sources for what the 19th-century movement produced and claimed.
02
Transmission / copy
Unknown / insufficient surviving evidence
There is no public ancient copy to transmit. Later editions of the Book of Mormon are copies of the English book, not of plates.
03
Translation / documentation
Contemporary primary text
The text we can document is English from the start of that publication history. It is not a translation scholars can set beside a source manuscript.
04
Modern interpretation
Modern scholarly reconstruction
Historical study of the translation claim, and the church’s own reading of the book as ancient scripture, are different interpretations. Neither turns the absent plates into an inspected artifact. This chart does not rule on the plates.
The twenty-one questions
Asked of every system. Gaps are recorded as gaps. Nothing here is filled in to make a pattern prettier.
01
Where are we?
In a vast inhabited creation organized by God from eternal or preexistent elements.
Read every system on this question02
What is reality made of?
Eternal or preexistent elements and intelligences. God organizes creation rather than producing it from absolute nothing.
Read every system on this question03
What is a human being?
A being with premortal existence and divine potential.
Read every system on this question04
What is consciousness?
Tied to premortal existence and divine potential. Intelligence/spirit is treated as real before mortal embodiment, not as a byproduct of the body alone.
Read every system on this question05
Where did humanity come from?
Premortal existence. God organizes creation from eternal or preexistent elements/intelligences.
Read every system on this question06
What happens at death?
A spirit world followed by resurrection.
Read every system on this question07
Does consciousness return to embodiment?
Not ordinary reincarnation. Premortal existence and resurrection are the frame.
Read every system on this question08
Where is consciousness between lives?
Spirit world, then resurrection. This is not ordinary reincarnation, so “between lives” is the wrong frame.
Read every system on this question09
Are there nonhuman intelligent beings?
Yes. Angels and divine beings.
Read every system on this question10
Can those beings become human or appear human?
Angels and divine beings are recorded. Humans have premortal existence and divine potential — a different claim from nonhuman beings becoming human.
Read every system on this question11
Are there multiple realms or worlds?
Multiple degrees/worlds in a vast inhabited creation.
Read every system on this question12
Is there a central mountain, tree, pillar, axis, heart, or sacred center?
Vast inhabited creation. A single terrestrial world-axis is not the governing image here.
Read every system on this question13
Is the world itself alive?
Vast inhabited creation organized by God. Aliveness of countless beings is claimed; the universe as one organism is not the doctrine recorded here.
Read every system on this question14
Has civilization or the world been destroyed or reset before?
Judgment and renewal.
Read every system on this question15
Does history operate linearly or cyclically?
Judgment and renewal inside a vast inhabited creation — linear sacred history, not reincarnation cycles.
Read every system on this question16
Is there an opposing positive/negative force?
Opposition is part of the moral world (including adversarial figures in the wider teaching). The chart’s own lines emphasize divine potential, judgment, and renewal.
Read every system on this question17
What is humanity supposed to become?
Divine potential. Humans have premortal existence and are not a one-life accident.
Read every system on this question18
Is reincarnation a destination, punishment, school, growth process, or something else?
Not ordinary reincarnation. Premortal existence plus resurrection is a different architecture.
Read every system on this question19
What lies beyond the visible world?
Spirit world, multiple degrees/worlds, angels and divine beings, vast inhabited creation.
Read every system on this question20
How does this tradition claim humans can know any of this?
Revelation, scripture, prophetic authority.
Read every system on this question21
Does the structure or motion of the heavens correspond to events, conditions, or consciousness within the human realm?
Vast inhabited creation. Astronomy as inhabited worlds is not the same as astrological correspondence to personality or events.

Why did humanity forget?
Not recorded in this chart.
