What happens at death?

  1. Biological death. Continuation is unestablished.

  2. Multiple concepts across periods and traditions — not a single afterlife doctrine.

  3. Judgment and continued existence.

  4. Continuity through dependent processes — not annihilation of a permanent self, nor a simple surviving soul.

  5. An extensive postmortem journey through Duat and related celestial realms.

  6. Inanna’s Descent: the netherworld has gates. She is killed there and brought back. Dumuzi is seized in her place. Death is a realm, not simple nonexistence.

  7. A shade goes below in Homer. Other streams offer mystery blessedness, punishment, or a philosophical judgment. They disagree.

  8. The jīva goes to another birth, or to liberation if karma is exhausted. Funeral rite is not what saves.

  9. The soul proceeds according to its life and God’s order, toward another birth or toward union. A graphic hell-map is not the teaching’s center.

  10. Death pollutes and is handled ritually. Ancestors are honored. Yomi belongs to myth more than to a single shrine doctrine.

  11. Ancestors are fed and housed in tablets and rites. Some popular traditions add courts of the underworld and, under Buddhist influence, rebirth. Not every family does all of this.

  12. What is spiritual is meant to leave the rulers of the cosmos. Body and soul are not always the same thing in these texts, and the route is school-specific.

  13. Several texts describe the soul giving back planetary qualities as it ascends. That itinerary is not in every treatise, and later Hermeticism varies.

  14. The dead can become ancestors who still relate to the living. How that is described is lineage-specific. Diaspora traditions add their own rites.

  15. The dead remain persons of the community. Mummies mattered to the Inca state. Other Andean peoples do not copy that court practice.

  16. The soul continues and progresses. Heaven and hell are taught as conditions of nearness and distance, not only as locations on a map.

  17. A Lakota teaching: the spirit travels Wanáǧi Thacháŋku, the spirit road, identified with the Milky Way. Not filed as Dakota.

  18. What remains with the body is avoided. It is not a heaven drawn on this row. Further geography is Unclassified / Source Needed.

  19. The filed line names síd as an otherworld. It does not give one afterlife.

  20. The filed line names Annwn as an otherworld. It does not give one afterlife.

  21. Classical authors report a Gaulish teaching about death. The filed line says those words are not Gaulish, and that it is not a full doctrine.

  22. Working synthesis · not a verdict

Moon interval — death is not recorded here as simple extinction.
